She has plans. Huge plans. She plans to pursue a performance career as a singer and dancer after she graduates from high school so a special senior photo session beginning at the Disney Grand Floridian was perfect. I lived in Orlando for eight years and had never been to the Grand Floridian so it made this photo session that much more special. Back a few years ago I photographed this talented young woman with her ballet troupe. We did costume changes, she stood on her tippy toes, she went into those poses only dancers know and she had that glow. And this time…nothing changed-costume changes, tippy toes, dancer poses and that same glow! It’s the Elise glow.

I have known this sweet human for several years and that made it all the more special to be asked to fly to Florida to capture her final senior moments. I’ve started this blog post several times and have had to stop. I can’t find the right words. Caroline is one of those people that defies vocabulary words to describe her-for the most part I am going to let her images do the talking because, well, they truly do-but I’m still going to give it a try using words. So those words like sweet, caring, humble, fun, loving, faithful, honest and adorable while they do describe her they don’t “tell her whole story”. She is this unique combination of an old soul with a child’s heart. She understands things inherently that people her age don’t get and somehow she uses that, in her own way, to make her little part of the world a better place. She is a special one indeed.

Birthday Party Photographer | Orlando, FL | Cheri Root Photography

When your Mom and her super cool friend are professional party planners…and not just any party planners but like the best party planners ever-well, your birthdays are pretty darn awesome. Eddie and his friends and family were treated to an under the sea 4th birthday party that will not soon be forgotten. Octonauts on the big screen, a pool full of balls and squishy sea toys, make your own bracelet and mask, snap a pic, an extremely talented balloon artist, a piñata and a combo bounce house and slide put smiles on all those kiddos faces. Not to mention the treats-sea goodies such as Swedish fish and gold fish, cake pops, rock pops, skittles, cookies and so much more! A lunch feast was also served (adult beverages provided-Moms and Dads were enjoying the party too)…and then popcorn and snow cones! I’m telling you it was a little kid heaven right here on Earth! Welcome to Eddie’s Octonaut birthday party.

Every time I travel to Orlando and get to hang out with this family I feel pretty darn fortunate. I want to say I’ve been photographing them their whole lives-you get to know a family and you feel that way. They are one of those families that it’s more than a photo session when we get together-it’s hanging out, talking, sharing, connecting and having some fun while we capture some memories. Even sitting on a park bench to attempt a somewhat awkward family photo turns out to not be awkward with them! So we hung out in Baldwin Park…no plan…just walked around and stopped every now and then to catch these moments. Here is the Mahoney family.

BroadwayCon’s website describes what it’s all about best…

“It is a three-day expo where fans can meet and interact with their favorite Broadway stars. It’s a showcase of some of Broadway’s newest and most exciting shows. It’s a place where industry professionals can work one-on-one with the next generation of up-and-coming performers. Most of all, BroadwayCon is a place where fans can come together, celebrate their passions and revel in the magic that is the theatre.”

This year was the third year of the event and the third year I have had the very cool privilege of photographing all the fun. Being an event photographer I get to experience every aspect of the convention from what is happening on stage, the excitement and reaction of the fans and the hard work that goes on behind the scenes to make everything happen. BroadwayCon 2018 took place at the Javits Convention Center in New York City. Some of the highlights of the convention included Lin Manuel-Miranda and the cast of In the Heights on stage for a reunion, an entire stage full of fans doing their very own sing-a-long, Jenn Colella (currently starring in Come From Away) again hosting BroadwayCon’s version of Family Feud, the Blizzard Hotline (which came to be due to the 2016 Blizzard in NYC which snowbound the Broadway guests so FaceTime calls were made for the fans) and Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez (Oscar Award winners) singing and sharing their music writing process for Frozen and the new songs they are writing for the Broadway version! Those are just a few highlights of three days of all things Broadway. Here are a few more…
